Barsi Shiv Mandir, Gangoh
Barsi Shiv Mandir is an ancient Shiva temple believed to date back to the Mahabharata era. It is situated in Barsi village of Gangoh town, approximately 40 km southwest of Saharanpur district headquarters.
According to local legends, during the Mahabharata period, Duryodhana had originally built the main gate of the temple facing the east direction. However, Bhima, using his immense and invincible strength, turned the temple along with its foundation towards the west. Since then, the entrance of the temple has remained in the west direction, which makes it unique and historically significant.
The temple is an important religious site and attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year. A three-day fair is organized here on the occasion of Mahashivratri, drawing pilgrims and visitors from nearby regions.
During the holy month of Shravan, many devotees visit the temple for worship, and Kanwar Yatra pilgrims come to offer sacred water to the Shivling.
